Hey there!Thank you for checking out my site!
This is an exciting year in you or your student's life. I am excited to be guiding him or her ( or you) along at Westlake. A bit about this class: Success in my classroom hinges upon communication. This class will entail a great deal of it, both written and verbal, in order to build skills needed in high school and beyond. We use writer's notebooks several times a week. Sometimes these will be specific to a text we are reading or a poem I have brought in, other times they will be free form with music or photos given for inspiration. Of course as it is English class there will also be a literature element. I will be giving ample time for reading completion outside of class as well as some dedicated in class reading time. As hard as it is for an English teacher to not assign every text he or she loves, I am condensing to texts that are representative of time periods, cultures, and writing styles. I want to be respectful of students' time and minds. We will read books of merit, both from the canon and outside it. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions of myself or other students in class, as well as finding an aspect of English that interests them. We will answer "big questions" and not simply teach mechanics. Please take a look around my site and shoot me an email anytime if you have any questions! |
